THE streets of Skipton are beginning to run red with Santas for the fifth successive year.

Skipton Craven Rotary Club has started the countdown to its annual Santa Fun Run, which will be staged on Sunday, November 30.

Club president Ken Lee said. "This is our flagship event and it is growing. This is a big team effort where so many people from Skipton Craven Rotary Club, local businesses and other organisations pull together to make it work."

The event was launched outside Skipton Town Hall earlier this month, when Santa's merry men mingled with happy shoppers.

The run - which is supported by Craven District and Skipton Town Councils - will start at Aireville Park at 11am and will follow a five-kilometre route, taking in the canal towpath, High Street, Otley Street, Regent Road, The Bailey, Springs Canal and Gargrave Road.

Last year's event attracted more than 1,200 runners and walkers and raised nearly £30,000 for local charities.

Runners can enter individually or as a team and raise for funds for their own charity, school or other cause or they can support one of the main beneficiaries, which, this year, are Sue Ryder Manorlands, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Airedale Hospital Emergency Department appeal.
