GIGGLESWICK Women's Institute celebrated its 60th birthday in style at Giggleswick School.

They enjoyed music from members of Settle Orchestra and singing duo Singing for Pleasure.

The WI movement is 100 years old this year and, last Monday, six Giggleswick members participated in a sponsored walk 100 Pairs of Feet organised by the North Yorkshire West WIs to celebrate the centenary.

Money was raised to reduce anaemia in women in Tamilnadu State, India, a project supported by the charity Associated Countrywomen of the World.

The 50-mile walk around Ripon was completed over six days, with Giggleswick members walking an eight-mile section.

The WI will hold a cream tea at the Friends Meeting House, Settle, on August 1 to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Giggleswick WI has more than 30 members and new members are always welcome. For more information, contact the secretary, Rosie Sanderson, on 01729 826944 or email giggleswickwi@yahoo.co.uk
