NEW affordable homes have been built in Craven at a rate well above targets set for North Yorkshire.

A total of 34 new homes have been built in the district in the last year - 19 per cent of those built in the county, where 179 affordable homes were completed. This is about 25 per cent above the target.

In the past four years, there have been 430 affordable houses completed.

Cllr Richard Foster, leader of Craven District Council and chairman of the Rural Housing Enabler Network, said: “I am extremely pleased with the efforts of our registered provider partners, the rural housing enablers and the Homes and Communities Agency for helping to achieve this figure.

“I would also like to thank the various planning authorities and the local parish councils and residents for their support for bringing sites forward. With this partnership working we have been able to provide affordable, good quality homes for those who are most in need and I am pleased that this will continue into the future.”

The new houses have been built as part of the rural housing enabler programme which is running to 2018, funded by local authorities in North Yorkshire, the county council and 14 housing associations.
