A SUTTON theatre group is about to stage its second production commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of the Seven World War.

When The Lights Go On, presented in April, was a nostalgic mix of songs, drama and comedy that evoked the atmosphere of life on the Home Front in the 1940s.

The second production is very different as it is a riotous tale of espionage, escapes, intrigue and infidelity in Occupied France.

Comedy play 'Allo 'Allo! is a theatrical adaptation of the hit BBC sitcom which ran to around 80 episodes during the 1980s.

Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company has ensured that all the much-loved characters from the TV show will be there on stage at Sutton Village Hall.

Rene Artois will hold court as proprietor of the little cafe in a French village doing his best to keep life going on as it always has.

This is quite difficult with a German garrison on the doorstep and the officers determined to use Rene’s cafe as their regular watering hole.

It’s even harder when the French Resistance also uses the cafe, with freedom fighter Michelle calling from time to time to pass on secret instructions.

Rene is terrified the Germans will discover the radio he keeps under his mother-in-law’s bed, the two escaped British airmen hiding behind the bar, and the English spy posing as a local policeman with a terrible French accent.

Then again, for Rene ‘normal life’ has long involved juggling two mistresses and ensuring his wife doesn’t discover what he’s up to.

The stage version of ‘Allo ‘Allo! meshes storylines from the convoluted TV episodes.

'Allo 'Allo! runs at Sutton Village Hall from next Thursday, September 10, to next Saturday, September 12, and includes adult humour.

Tickets cost £8.50, including supper and are available from suttongreenhuttheatre.co.uk or call 01535 632289.

The group will perform the pantomime Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs in December.
