A NEWSLETTER has been published for supporters of a long-distance footpath that passes through Craven.

A Dales High Way runs from Saltaire through Ilkley, Addingham and Skipton before moving through the Yorkshire Dales to Appleby-in-Westmorland.

The path, a high-level route inspired by the 45-year-old Dales Way, last year won inclusion on the latest Ordnance Survey maps.

The Friends of a Dales High Way has just published the second newsletter dedicated to developments along the 90-mile route.

The newsletter reports that the trail now appears as a recreational path marked on new OS maps OL2 and OL19.

A spokesman said: “We're undertaking a survey of the entire route this year and we highlight some important improvements to the path thanks to the efforts of the local authority rangers and volunteers, with more to come, particularly on the climb up to Ingleborough.

“There’s plenty of exciting new accommodation coming on stream along the way, most importantly at the pinch point at Chapel-le-Dale. We also list our top ten annual festivals along the route.”

The Friends group have promoted the A Dales High Way over the past year to build on the increased popularity of the Yorkshire Dales following the Tour de France.

Chris Grogan, co-creator of the trail, said that spending a few days on a trail and staying in towns and villages along the way meant that walkers enjoyed both the countryside and great Yorkshire hospitality.
