AFTER winning the Pendle Building Bridges Project, pupils at West Craven High School in Barnoldswick organised an Around the World Food and Music Event.

Year nine students Megan Ashley, Sally McGlashan, Caitlin Scott and Molly Stowe held their event at the Frank Street Pensioners’ Centre, Barnoldswick.

The centre was decorated with international flags, the students played music from several countries and residents were given the opportunity to taste different culinary delights from around the world including China, India, England, America and Italy.

Invited guests from Primet High School put on a student and staff mini-drama, which promoted acceptance and celebration of difference, and West Craven students produced a fact-file on each country and a mini quiz for guests to complete.

The girls said: “This has been a great learning experience. Building Bridges has been a fabulous project that really has opened our eyes to what difference really means – our lives and experiences are much better for it. More students should have the opportunity to embrace the idea of diversity.”
