GIGGLESWICK School Theatre Studies pupils are busy putting the finishing touches to their AS Theatre Studies production of Alistair McDowall's sinister and surreal thriller, Pomona.

The play centres on Ollie who is searching for her missing sister in Manchester, but finds all roads lead to Pomona - an abandoned concrete island at the heart of the city. Here journeys end and nightmares are born.

Gareth Warburton, head of performing arts, said: "It’s great to be staging such a contemporary piece of theatre here in Giggleswick and it’s always a much better experience for our young performers to have a full house to perform to so I would urge everyone to come and see a truly cutting-edge production, being staged in Yorkshire for the first time."

There will be performances at the school's Richard Whiteley Theatre on Monday and Tuesday and, while they are open to the public, these are part of the students' AS exams and a visiting examiner may be present.

Meanwhile Giggleswick Junior School pupils are rehearsing for their latest production, The Rocky Monster Show - a riotous mix of Addams Family, Young Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera, with Rebecca and The Rocky Horror Show thrown in for good measure.

Baron Frankenstein’s descendant, an ex-pop star turned professor of genetics, creates DNA moulds of people in his computer. These moulds come to life as the ultimate Rock Group, headed by the clone of Elvis himself.

James Mundell, Junior School headmaster said: "This promises to be a witty, fun and unique take on some monster themed stories we all know and love. It has been a joy to watch the pupils rehearsing and they have loved the opportunity to come together across all the year groups.

The show - directed by speech and drama teacher Susan Butler - will be staged on Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20.
