ACTORS Prunella Scales and Timothy West passed through Skipton during filming for their popular series on the country's canals.

Having set off from Foulridge on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, they stopped overnight in Skipton, staying at The Rendezvous Hotel in Keighley Road, and dropping off for refreshments at The Boat House Bar in the Canal Basin.

Mr West, who is preparing to play King Lear next month at the Bristol Old Vic as part of its 250th anniversary year, joined his wife at The Rendezvous later in the evening.

Malcolm Weaving, owner of the Rendezvous Hotel, said they were delightful and happily agreed to have their picture taken on the hotel staircase.

"They were a lovely couple and their picture will go up in our celebrity gallery," he added.

Channel Four's Great Canal Journeys follows the actors as they travel canals both in Britain and abroad.
