BENTHAM will bring out the brollies for the town's carnival on June 4.

Organisers have chosen 'umbrellas' as this year's theme – partly in response to Storm Desmond, which washed away one of the local highways, and partly because they are fun to decorate.

The event will see an array of decorated and colourful brollies setting off from the Horse and Farrier car park at 1.30pm and making its way up Main Street to the Auction Mart.

There will also be street bands, art and entertainment, craft stalls, children’s activities, street food and more.

At 4.30pm, the entertainment moves into the nearby pubs, where an eclectic range of minstrels and musicians will entertain into the night.

Visitors are encouraged to get involved in the procession by transforming brollies at one of several free workshops being staged at Looking Well in Bentham. They will take place on Saturday and from Tuesday to Friday between noon to 2pm.
