A SKIPTON woman with an aggressive form of cancer is overwhelmed after raising more than £2,600 in a sponsored walk around the town.

Ann Greene had set herself a target of £1,000 in Skipton Cancer Support's second annual 5k Moonlight Walk.

But in the end, she more than doubled her target, and with still more coming in, believes she might hit £3,000 in aid of Skipton Cancer Centre.

She is now busy completing her 'bucket list' of things to do, including seeing her beloved Burnley remain in the Premier League and going up in a hot air balloon.

It was the second time the 56-year-old had taken part in the Moonlight walk, which this year took place on June 10, setting off from Skipton Town Hall and finishing at the centre in Otley Street. Last year, she took part in memory of her friend, former councillor Polly English, who died from cancer in 2014.

Just a few months later, at Christmas last year, Ann was diagnosed with cancer herself, and before taking part in the walk, had spent three months having treatment at St James' Hospital in Leeds.

She added: "More than 20 friends joined me on the night, who between them raised in the region of another £2,000.

"Carolyn Edgar, who I've been friends with for 35 years, also collected donations along the way of nearly £100, and sponsors came from far and wide, including old school and work mates together with family and friends here and overseas."

Collections were also made at the Swadford Centre, where Ann has worked for seven years, South Craven Baptist Church, and family and friends at Select Components in Skipton.

Ann, who says her prognosis is not good, is currently waiting to have a PET scan at a mobile unit in Bradford, which will provide an accurate diagnosis and stage of her cancer.

She added: "This will mean my consultant can form a prognosis on a fairly accurate timescale, which is very important to me as with the help of some great friends, I am working my way through a 'bucket list'.

"It includes stuff as simple as revisiting some special old childhood haunts along with more difficult stuff like a ride in a hot air balloon and/or a helicopter and watching my beloved Burnley retaining their position in the Premier League next season."

People can still make donations through Cancer Support Yorkshire's Justgiving page, where Ann has her own section.
