VINTAGE buses are to be brought out of mothballs to relive their days on the bus routes of Craven.

The three former Pennine buses - the company folded in 2014 after serving the district for 85 years -

are to spend a day re-visiting some of the routes they serviced.

But this time the bright orange buses won't be taking fares - all the journeys will be free of charge.

Hourly bus services on Saturday, October 8, will run from Skipton Bus Station to Embsay, Carleton

and round the Horse Close circular, using the same buses, timetables and routes as Pennine Motors had done.

In addition, Pennine buses will travel from Skipton to Settle and Malham, boosting the existing service operated by Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire.

The following day, a wider selection of vintage buses and coaches from many eras will be on display in Skipton offering fare free trips.

Tim Moody will be with his Leyland National bus built in 1979 which was withdrawn by Pennine in February 2009 and was the last of the old type still in service with Pennine at the time.

He said: "I'm certain this event will interest local residents, especially those keen to remember Pennine buses or those just wanting top make a journey into Skipton."

Pennine Motors distinctive orange buses plied their trade in Skipton and the Dales for 89 years before the company folded in 2014.

The closure deprived local people of buses to Embsay and Carleton or on the Skipton Horse Close Circular on Saturdays.
