PEOPLE in Craven are being offered discounted compost bins as part of this week's International Compost Awareness Week.

Up until Saturday (May 7), discounted bins can be bought for £12 or £15, for a larger one, and there is also a 'buy one get one half price offer.

The larger £15 bins are also on sale at household waste recycling centres at Skipton, though there is no buy one get one half-price deal at the centres.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) North Yorkshire Rotters composting volunteers will promote waste prevention at the launch of Skipton charity SELFA's Community Fridge, a sharing food scheme, at the former Ings Primary School, Broughton Road, from 10am to midday.

The county council has also partnered with Great Green Systems to offer deals on food waste digesters and hot compost bins. Digesters will take cooked food waste and meat scraps, which could help to eliminate food waste from rubbish. Craven residents can get up to 40 per cent off at www.greatgreensystems.com/north-yorkshire-council
