IT may have been raining in London yesterday for the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, but the weather was kind in Skipton where a large crowd turned up to watch the pomp and ceremony on a giant screen in the canal basin.

Families settled into deckchairs or watched from aboard narrow boats to watch the procession screened live through London and the crowning ceremony itself in Westminster Abbey. Some came along with their own tables and picnics, while others enjoyed a variety of refreshments at the event,  laid on by Skipton Town Council and Skipton BID.

Following the live screening from London, which included seeing the Royals come out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and a scaled-down flypast, because of the heavy skies, there was a family film for all to enjoy.

At 11am today (Sunday) at Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, there will be a civic service celebrating the volunteer work and activities of Skipton.

Celebrations are also due to continue with parties in villages and towns across Craven.
