FIREFIGHTERS are still at the scene of a wildfire that broke out on Skipton Moor yesterday evening.

Two fire appliances from Skipton were joined by crews from Settle and Grassington to a call at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Fire crews are still at the scene now (Wednesday afternoon) as the wildfire is proving difficult to put out.

Ben Cairns, fire and rescue leader, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Crews are still at the scene as the wildfire is deep-seated and difficult to extinguish.

"Crews are working very hard in arduous conditions and tough terrain. If you are using the moors and countryside, then be vigilant and wildlife aware, the ground is extremely dry."
