Bolton Abbey

Rector’s Message: On this Third Sunday after Easter we hear from our Old Testament reading about Joseph being reconciled with his estranged brothers. We all know the story of Joseph and his ‘amazing Technicolour dreamcoat’ but the reality behind the story is that there had been a serious falling out among the family. However, Joseph found it within himself to forgive them and the family was reconciled and healed as a result. In a world currently embroiled in war and strife, there has never been a more important time to remind ourselves of the power of this story. With a serious escalation of violence in the Middle East, seldom has restraint and reconciliation been needed so badly. If we too can follow the example of Joseph and his family by reconciling our differences and learning to love our neighbour then the world might well be a better place.
