ELLA Bardgett and Hermione Roe struck gold for Skipton in the two-day City of Leeds Swimming Club 2014 Grade Two Meet at the John Charles Centre for Sport.

Ella overcame tough competition as she set a new club record time of 39.33sec to win the girls ten years 50m backstroke in 39.33. The talented youngster also won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke where she clocked 1.23.73 to achieve her first North East Region qualifying time.

Ella is ranked third in 50m backstroke in the Yorkshire short course rankings and seventh in 100m backstroke.

Nine-year-old Hermione won gold in 50m breaststroke 45.78 and secured silver in the 50m freestyle in 35.18 which is also a new club record.

The ASA website shows Hermione is ranked second in the county for the 50m breaststroke and fourth nationally. She still has six months in the age group to achieve further success.

Joel Phillip 12, achieved two new North East Region qualifying times for the December meet. He knocked six seconds off his personal best in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 3.07.27 to qualify for the final. He was reserve for the 100m breaststroke final after recording a time of 1.28.51.

Ellie Phillip 15, gained a qualifying North East Region time in the 50m butterfly with 32.87 while Bea Waller got to the final of the girls13/14 years 200m backstroke with a new personal best of 2.31.5 and Fenn Curran recorded a North East Region qualifying time of 1.17.17 in the 100m freestyle.

Lauren Hanson and Mark Mahoney recorded personal bests as did Matthew Housley, Tom Barrett, Ned Sharp, Millie Sharp and Alfie Western.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the presence of 23-year-old British Olympic swimmer Roberto Pavoni who swam against the Skipton boys in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
