Craven FA Cup Games

FOUR Players were sent off as Blue Fin Craven Challenge Cup holders Rimington defeated Settle United 1-0 in a hard-fought semi-final at Skipton Town.

Both sides were reduced to nine men as Settle’s Dale Denham and Matthew Baines were dismissed along with Rimington’s goalscorer Robert Lloyd and Gary Jackson during a fiery 20-minute spell.

This week’s meeting of the Craven FA Executive will discuss the incidents which marred the game.

Lloyd scored the only goal after 36 minutes as Rimington avenged the 3-0 West Riding County Cup defeat they suffered against their rivals. He collected Oliver McClean’s excellent cross-field pass before scoring with an angled drive.

The early play had been fast and furious but there was no indication of what the second half would bring when players lost their discipline.

There was little respect shown towards the officials as decision were queried constantly before the first red card was issued when Settle’s Dale Denham was dismissed for a two-footed tackle.

A similar incident followed when Rimington’s Lloyd committed a foul tackle and in the melee that followed his team-mate Gary Jackson was dismissed for pushing a Settle player over.

Settle’s Matthew Baines was the fourth player to be dismissed when he denied Matt Bagot a goal-scoring opportunity as a Rimington attacker burst into the area.

Settle keeper Sam Arrowsmith capped a fine performance by saving the penalty.

Skipton LMS required penalties to secure their place in the semi-final against Rolls FC. Opponents Grassington United established a 3-1 lead with goals from Tarek Issa, Ian Craven and Jack Schindler.

Two Luke Howsen goals saved LMS who went on to win the penalty shoot out 5-4.

In the Morrison Cup quarter finals both North Lancashire sides Bentham and Ingleton eased into the semi-finals.

Ingleton won 4-0 at Waddington with goals from Joe Towers (2), Aaron Woodhouse and Gary China while Bentham shaded a close game at home to Pendle Renegades 2-1.

The visitors took the lead with a penalty converted by Danny Paton however defences were on top until the second half when Bentham converted a penalty through Teddy Harrison.

The deciding goal came from Jake Fawcett who netted with a powerful 35-yarder that gave the outstanding Pendle keeper no chance.

Horton also secured a semi-final place for the first time with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Barlick Wanderers. First half goals from Danny Richardson (2), Steve Marsden and John Sutcliffe virtually sealed their place.

Barnoldswick Town (EL) went out with 3-1 home defeat to Earby Town despite taking a early lead through Peter Mogford. Earby levelled after 16 minutes through Karl Farrell.

Joel Howard’s header gave the visitors the lead and they sealed the game when Dickson poked the ball home after he goalkeeper had fumbled.

Rolls FC reserves beat Bradley reserves to secure a final place against Ingeton reserves in the Noman Pratt Trophy.

Bradley, from two divisions below their rivals, gave a good account of themselves as they lost 2-0.
