SUTTON Juniors Football Club have agreed a deal in principle to buy some land within the village's boundaries.

However, the exact whereabouts of the plot, how long the scheme will take to come to fruition and the finer details of the deal are being kept under wraps for the moment, although the club have revealed that they need to raise £25,000.

Fund-raising activities for a club that runs teams from four-year-olds to veterans and has a membership of around 250, have already been planned, with the latest one taking place last Sunday with a club fun day in Sutton Park, which included matches between the club's youngest age groups and specially selected opposition.

It is also hoped that the local community and local businesses will support the project, and a account for donations to be made is available at www.gofundme.com/tywe4ck.

Sutton Juniors FC's club statement says: "Sutton Juniors are in consultation and have agreed a deal in principle to buy land.

"The land itself, timescales, and details of the deal will need to be kept under wraps for now but we can confirm it does lie within the boundaries of Sutton-in-Craven.

"Our senior management committee will be working with various local and national bodies to help deliver this but the support of our members and the wider community will be vital.

"There will be various ways members, and indeed people, from the village and surrounding areas can get involved, and these will be announced over the next few weeks.

"In the meantime, supporting our club fund-raising events, buying from our club shop or simply donating via our gofundme account will help.

"All these options are available through our Facebook page and our club website."

In terms of creating a legacy, the statement continued|: "Hopefully everyone can now see why we’re so driven in our fund-raising efforts and understand that this is achievable if we all pull together!

"We have a chance to create a lasting legacy for generations of children and adults in Sutton and the surrounding areas.

"The club needs to reach a goal of £25k – we have already put in place a number of contingency elements to support this target – but this is our aim.

"This will be mixed between active fund-raising and more corporate and commercial support.

"In terms of timescales, it will take many months to bottom all the technical aspects of the proposals, legal status and club structure to move forward. Please bear with us.

"We will be looking for support from the local community and businesses, and putting forward various ways people can get involved from small donations through to lifetime sponsorship deals.

"This really is a significant development for our club and offers people a chance to support the growth of our village club which now has a playing membership around the 250 mark, ranging from four-year-olds through to a veterans' team."
