Barnoldswick Town 4 Maine Road 2

BARNOLDSWICK Town returned to winning way with an entertaining Premier Division victory at the Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

It was the perfect tonic for Stewart Airdrie's men as it brought to an end of a run which had seen them take just one point in their previous four games. The win also ensured that they kept a grip on second place.

The match saw both teams try to play attacking football and Town drew first blood after 11 minutes when the in-form Mark Threlfall popped up with another goal.

There were chances at both ends before Threlfall struck again the final minute of the first half to double the home side's lead.

It looked as if the match might be over as a contest when fellow striker Joe Gaughan added a third goal just two minutes after the interval.

Maine Road weren't giving it up as a lost cause and were rewarded when Callum Broady slotted home a penalty in the 49th minute.

Two minutes later and it really was game on. This time it was Jamie Roe who popped up with a goal as the visitors sensed they could get something out of the game.

Town rode out the growing storm and eventually wrapped up the three points with ten minutes to go. This time it was John Beckwith who came up with the crucial strike.
