CHRIS Wilson retained the Norman Johnston Trophy when the competition was held under the floodlights at Lund Park Bowling Club
Keighley’s Chris Wilson started his defence of the title with a 21-17 win over team mate Len Buxton, while Richard Perry just got the better of Oliver Burnett with a 21-20 win.
In the quarter-finals the two Hargreaves brothers met, with Neil coming out the victor 21-15. Wilson got the better of Kevin Burnett 21-12.
Perry took on Oliver’s dad Warren Burnett next and another close game saw him win 21-19. The last quarter-final saw Billy Cater beat Peter Haworth 21-15.
The semi-finals where both cracking matches as Wilson just got the better of Neil Hargreaves. Wilson led 19-14 but Hargreaves was not done, as he clawed his way back with some quality bowls to lead 20-19.
Then a poor lead from Hargreaves was followed by a poor bowl from Wilson.
When Hargreaves bumped Wilson’s short bowl in it left him with a gimme for a 21-20 win.
The other semi saw Perry defeat Cater 21-19 in another close encounter.
Wilson got off to a terrific start in the final and soon had a 13-4 lead, Perry tried hard to recover but couldn't shake Wilson who went on to win 21-9.
