ONCE again Settle’s season was disrupted by the weather.

Saturday’s NWCL game at Whalley was abandoned due to rain. After putting Whalley into bat Ashen Silva and Tremaine Dowrich took four wickets each; this and two runouts restricted the home side to 76 all out in 42.4 overs.

Settle’s innings lasted just nine overs before the rain intervened with their score standing at 20-3. Sadly, the deluge continued, leading to the abandonment.

On Sunday Settle hosted Farnworth Social Circle in the semi-final of the Hamer Cup, with the league’s leading run scorer in their ranks, West Indian Pro Jameel Stuart. Batting first FSC were all out for 106.

Their score was restricted by accurate bowling and fielding featuring a number of outstanding test standard catches. Set a target of 107 to win in 40 overs Settle reached 75-2 when rain brought play to an end; Tremaine Dowrich leading the way with a well-crafted 44.

Although the weather cleared up no further play was deemed possible and the game will resume where it left off on the same wicket, with the same teams and same scores next Sunday. Settle required 32 to win with professional Ashen Silva and John Davidson at the crease, with 20 overs and eight wickets in hand.

The Hamer Cup is not subject to DLS rules.
