National League One: Wharfedale 28 Coventry 24

A SUPERB end-of-season match was just edged by Wharfedale.

The first half ended even, with both sides scoring three converted tries.

Coventry took the lead in the second half with a penalty, but Wharfedale claimed victory with a successful move from a five-metre line-out.

Dale set off playing some exquisite rugby and, after a quick line-out, Andy Hodgson created space for Jordan Poole, who progressed deep into the Coventry 22, before feeding Phil Woodhead, who opened the scoring.

Jamie Guy added the conversion and, from the restart, Dale soon were again on the attack, a strong run from Rob Baldwin setting up a ruck on the visitors' 22.

A trademark run from Dan Solomi led to him scampering over for a try, and again Guy was accurate from the tee.

Coventry's response came from the pack, and a driving maul led to Matthew Price touching down, Matthew Jones adding the extras.

Cameron Hudson added another converted try for Dale before Coventry ended the half with two converted tries from Alexander Woodburn and a peach from Dominic Lespierre.

Jones took Coventry into the lead for the first time after 53 minutes before Josh Burridge crossed the whitewash to re-establish Dale’s lead with eight minutes to go, Guy finishing the scoring with another successful conversion.
