WHARFEDALE may be journeying into the unknown next season but they aren't taking the task of playing in National League Two North lightly.

Director of rugby James Doherty said: "It is a new challenge. We haven't really known anything different for 20 years, but it is not something that we will be taking lightly as there are some very good teams there."

The Greens, who haven't named either their captain or their forwards' coach yet for the 2016-17 campaign, displayed a unified front at their club function.

Doherty said: "It was a very positive meeting. I don't just want anything that I say to the players to go just to them.

"I want it to go out to the sponsors, the Cavalry Club, members and senior officials within the club so that we are all aware of what is going on and can move forward together."

As for who will wear the captain's armband and who will be forwards' coach, he said: "We will announce the skipper when pre-season training gets underway next month.

"As for the forwards' coach, it is not something that we want to rush into. We have been speaking to two or three people and want to make sure that we appoint the right person.

"They need to understand what we as a club are about and buy into it."

So far only Tom Barrett, from Doncaster Knights, has been recruited for next season.

However, Doherty said that the fly half wouldn't be the only former Wharfedale player returning to the ranks for 2016-17, adding: "We are expecting three more, and the prospect is exciting."
